How we make money

The site is free to use. Here is exactly how it pays for itself, so you can judge our recommendations for yourself.

Affiliate links

Some “Buy” buttons may earn us a small commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. Any link that earns us money is labelled “Ad” and marked as sponsored for search engines. Right now none of our links are affiliate links.

Featured slots

Publishers, venues and shops can pay for a Featured slot. Paid placements are always labelled “Featured”, a person approves every one, and paying never changes what we say about a game or venue. See the Featured policy.

Newsletter sponsors

Our weekly email may include one sponsor slot, labelled “Featured”.

Our own shop

If we ever link to a shop that we own or have a stake in, we will say so right next to the link, not just on this page. There are no such links at present.

What money does not buy

• A place on a situation list.
• A better description or a higher “easy to teach” score.
• Review scores for unreleased crowdfunding games (we do not show any).
